Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays. Every year, my family gathers  to celebrate and enjoy delicious food. It is a day where we can spend quality  time together and share what we are thankful for. It is a great opportunity for us to reminisce about how grateful we are for what we have. My family loves to cook Thanksgiving food such as turkey, mashed potatoes, and corn. However, we also like to include some of our own traditional Spanish and Italian food. We usually also have some rice and pasta on Thanksgiving, even though they are not typically eaten on Thanksgiving. Concerts

One of my favorite things to do with my friends is go to concerts. One of my favorite concert experiences was seeing One Republic perform live at Jones Beach Theater. The whole time, I felt like I was on cloud nine because they are one of my favorite bands. I really enjoy going to concerts at Jones Beach Theater because they are outdoors. However, one time I was at a concert and it was raining cats and dogs. Usually, the concerts do not get postponed and continue even during inclement weather. For this reason, I always try to remember to bring a raincoat with me. One time, my friend surprised me with tickets to see the 1975 perform at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY. She bought the tickets at the last minute for a discounted price and asked me if I wanted to go. I had to rush after work that day to catch the train. Thankfully, I arrived  on time and we were able to see the full concert. It is always fun going to concerts with my friends and making lasting memories .

Family Recipe Book

Lately, I have been working on creating a family recipe book. My entire family enjoys cooking traditional Spanish and Italian food. Recently, my mother mentioned that it might be a good idea to start writing down family recipes. Therefore, I decided that I should start a family recipe book that includes each recipe and a photo of each dish. The recipe book could potentially be passed down from generation to generation. Additionally , I could share family recipes with friends and colleagues .  Vocabulary: 1. Entire- whole 2. Enjoy- to like 3. Traditional- classic, long-established  4. Oscars

Every year, I look forward to watching the Oscars on television. The Oscars, also known as the Academy Awards, recognizes  achievements in the film industry . This year, the Oscars took place on March 4th, 2018 in Los Angeles, California. It's always entertaining to see what the celebrities decide  to wear on the red carpet and listen to their acceptance speeches. My sister and I enjoy making predications  about who we think will win an Oscar award. Our predictions aren't always correct , but we still have fun making the predictions. For instance, this year we correctly predicted that the actress Allison Janney would win the award for best supporting actress. There's always a brief moment of suspense right before they announce the winner of the award. Favorite TV Shows

                      In my free  time, I enjoy watching my favorite TV shows. Right now, I am watching a drama series titled  Call the Midwife.  The show is about a group of midwives and takes place in East London during the 1950s. Currently, my favorite character on the show is Trixie, who is a vibrant , confident , and funny midwife. The other TV show I am watching is titled New Girl . The show is a comedy about the lives of five friends living in Los Angeles. Schmidt, one of my favorite characters on the show, is clever ,  lively , spontaneous . Another one of my favorite  characters  on the show is Winston, because he is unique and whimsical.  Vocabulary: 1. Drama- something that is emotional or exciting  2. Winter Olympics 2018

The Winter Olympics is an international multi-sport event that took place this year in Pyeongchang, South Korea. This year, the Winter Olympics lasted for about two weeks. During this time, athletes from around the world competed for the chance to win a gold, silver, or bronze medal . At the 2018 Winter Olympics, Norway was the country that won the most medals. My favorite Olympic sport to watch is figure skating. I enjoyed watching the Olympic athletes perform  their routines and receive a score. The other two Winter Olympic sports I enjoyed watching were snowboarding and speed skating. The next Winter Olympics will occur in Beijing, China during the year 2022.  Vocabulary: 1. All About Me

My name is Elena D'Ambrosio. I am currently a junior at Molloy College majoring in Adolescent Math/TESOL Education. I have an older sister who is currently in medical school and a younger brother who will soon  graduate high school. I grew up speaking Spanish and Italian at home because my mother is from Ecuador and my father is from Italy. I enjoy traveling to Italy in the Summer to visit my family members who still live there. This past Summer, I was able to travel to Italy for three weeks. During that time, I was able to spend quality time with my cousins. My passions include cooking, watching television, and knitting. Additionally, I enjoy learning new foreign languages. At the moment , I am attempting to learn French. A friend of mine told me about an interactive app called Duolingo where you can learn new languages. I am looking forward to Spring because I prefer warm weather. Vocabulary: 1.
